Respect From Teenagers.

First of all, let’s face it. Respect from our youth today just does not exist. Even the Police are scared to say too much to them. And they certainly won’t touch them without a damn good reason. I can remember being caught by a policeman for pinching Apples. He took me around the corner, gave me a clip around the ear, and then took me home. I was guaranteed another slap from the old man ( Dad ). But these days if you carry out a more serious crime and get caught, you might get a caution. The only slap you get from your dad is for getting caught. I believe this loss of respect began the minute they took corporal punishment away from the Schools. I say ” bring back corporal punishment to start with followed by a compulsary Two year term in the Army ” .   I am not saying all kids are bad,  just the majority.

    Are you serious?
Narrow view man, I’m typing from Dunedin, NZ and teenagers get the short end of the stick from cops here.
I’ve been checked for drugs for no better reason than being in town after dark.
Two friends and I have been kicked out of a supermarket because we “were obviously planning to shoplift”- presumably because we spent too long in a single isle.

In terms of respect for parents- it’s a cretin who bites the hand that feeds them. I’d respect anyone who tolerates my prescence enough to let me live in their house and eat their food. Not that that’s why I respect my family, I respect them because they’re good people who appreciate me.

Teenagers are the bottom of the societal barrel and I don’t think that’s unique to my city.
Any rift in respect I think would be caused by the sort of system that suggests violence is actually useful as a discipline. You’d resent your boss i he could smack you in the face if you did something to offend him- or if he saw it fit. That’s the kind of authority people seem to want from teachers.

Compulsory army term? So you just want to cull the modern youth then?

First of all, let me say that i am not a narrow view minded man. “Cops” as you call them, get the short end of the stick not the Teenagers. But i am talking from a UK point of view. So i cannot really comment on your situation in NZ. I can only give my views on UK. Yes, i agree that sometimes the Police get a bit heavy handed. But in the UK the Police are FRIGHTENED to touch the Teenagers for fear of being accused of Assault or even Racism. And the Teenagers know it and play on it.
I spent 14 years in the Army and it did me ( and my 2 children ) no harm at all.
You seem a bit frightened off by the thought of a spell of discpline in the forces, where you can’t just throw your dummy in the corner and get what you want ?
